The whole idea of using speaking software that is able to recognize the user's voice is that is makes certain areas of your job easier.

These programs enable a person to produce various different types of documents; from emails to essays, to reports, and even spreadsheets. In most cases a person who uses any form of speech recognition software will find that they can increase their efficiency and productivity levels by about 150%.

On average, most people are able to speak at around 120 wpm (words per minute) whilst the average typist is able to type 60 to 70 wpm. However, for most other people, they can expect to be able to type at around 40 wpm. Today, most speaking software has been designed to be used with most Windows based applications, and all you are required to do is speak into a microphone.

Although you do not need to read any type of script in order for the system to recognize your voice, you can if you wish (in order to ensure that the accuracy of what you are saying and what is then converted into text on the screen in front of you can be greatly improved).

With a lot of the speaking software that is now available, a person will find that as time goes by the package will be learning all the time from you as you speak. So as time goes by, each time you say a particular word that you then need to correct later, the software will learn how you have said the word and what you actually meant when you said it.

As well as providing all the above, many speaking software packages, especially Dragon Naturally Speaking Version 9, allows a person to use a Bluetooth headset with the system. This means that no longer will you have to sit in front of your computer in order to produce a document, but rather, it allows you to get up and move around whilst you carry on working. A lot of people find it easier to think on their feet... when they are moving around rather than when they are sitting in front of their screen and staring at a blank page.
