Pathology Transcription

Pathology Transcription Is A Great Career.

Anyone involved within the world of pathology transcription will be required to transcribe the recorded spoken word into either an electronic or paper text format. Typically, a pathologist will dictate their observations and all diagnosis relating to the person they are dealing with, using a APLIS (Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Information System) and which all the reports can then be transcribed from into a text document.

However, voice recognition (VR) systems now seem to be coming to the forefront in this medical profession. Where as with pathology transcription, the work needs to be recorded either onto a cassette or onto an audio file, and then transcribed. With a VR system, the pathologist, laboratory or microbiology technician is able to directly dictate what is occurring and as it is dictated, the spoken words are then converted automatically into the text format that they require.

Today, there are now systems available which allow the use of vocabulary and language models that have been specifically developed in relation to the world of pathology. It is these programs which have now improved the accuracy of the software to recognize the words and predict in which order the words should go, in relation to the context of the language that is used specifically to produce pathology reports. Previously, these systems meant that between each word a person would have to pause in order to provide the software with a chance to recognize the words that were being spoken. However, with the improved technology, a pathologist can now dictate continuously and is therefore able to speak more naturally.

Certainly for many pathologists, there are some advantages to be gained from using VR technology over the more traditional pathology transcription methods. One of these being that they will improve their productivity and efficiency levels, as no longer will they need to have to wait for their transcriptions to be returned to them for checking and then returned to the transcriber for errors to be corrected. This means that once the pathology examination has taken place, they can immediately go to their own computer and look through what they have dictated, and make any corrections as necessary.

Another major advantage to be gained from using voice recognition software as opposed to using a pathology transcription service is the cost. No longer will a pathology department have to worry about the additional costs faced by them in employing someone to transcribe all their notes for them when instead, they can actually do it all themselves. In fact, you would be surprised to know that although such shows as CIS have all this high-tech gadgetry to use in order to solve the crimes, in real life, a pathology department of any law enforcement agency does not have the kind of money that this show has. In fact, the money that they use to make one episode of CIS will actually run a complete pathology department for any law enforcement agency in the USA for a whole year.
