The role of the medical transcriptionist has been around for as long as doctor's first started to take the Hippocratic Oath. All the courses are based on the syllabus which has been designed by the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT). For those students who graduate from an institute that uses such a syllabus, they will find that they can obtain employment as a transcriber pretty easily and quickly. A lot of women who have obligations relating to their family will often pass the course in order that they can work from home.
